Paddy Irishman Project is searching for men named Paddy, Patrick, Pat to photograph them and capture their stories to show there is no such thing as a typical ‘Paddy’! The chosen Paddys will have their photo taken by award-winning film-maker and photographer Ross O’Callaghan (Hector’s right hand man behind the camera) and they could be part of an exhibition of Paddy portraits in New York on St Patrick’s Day 2022.
It’s a study of what it is like to be Irish and male in contemporary Ireland and aims to challenge the international stereotype of a ‘Paddy Irishman’. Ross is looking for all types of Paddys from the youngest to the oldest, to Paddy the traveller, the local hero Paddy, and even Paddy in prison. He has some well-known Paddy Irishmen signed up for the project already, including gay and differently abled activist Paddy Smyth; filmmaker Paddy Breathnach; architect Paddy Bradley, Ireland’s strongest man Paddy (Pa) O’Dwyer writer and star of TV’s Brassic Paddy C. Courtney.
