You Can Count On Me is the second in a line of 7″ singles precipitating the release next year of Tomboy, the whetted-after follow up to 2007’s celebrated Person Pitch by erstwhile Animal Collective member Panda Bear.
You Can Count On Me is not a million miles from Person Pitch’s charming closer Ponytail – its short and meditative and you could imagine this closing the album as it has done most of his live sets recently. Similarly it’s built on his processed guitar and layers of vocal harmonies rather chopped-up loops like much of his recent work by either by himself or with Animal Collective.
The B-side Alsatian Darn essentially plays the same tricks as its partner in a darker and more pulsating manner but it’s Panda Bear’s knack for plaintive melodies and his towering voice that really makes these tracks stick their head above the league of imitators sure to follow on his adventure of Enya rehabilitation.
