Sounds Out: Nealo – November Medicine

Posted 11 months ago in Music Reviews

Three years on from the release of his Choice Prize nominated debut, All The Leaves Are Falling, Clonsilla hip-hop and spoken word artist Nealo returns with a sophomore LP for the ages, the remarkable November Medicine.

Featuring collaborations with the likes of Morgana, Jehnova, Rebel Phoenix, Sivv and Uly, amongst others, November Medicine is Nealo learning to love and celebrate himself and the incredible hard work he’s put in to get to this point. Tracks such as Tears You Cry, Cereal and Rosemary paint the picture of a man trying to get back on his feet and appreciate the life he’s built and the loved ones he has around him. It’s a celebration of the tough times, battles won, and making it out the other side. November Medicine appreciates the good times and tries to put that same goodness back into the world through actions and kindness.

Similar to All The Leaves Are Falling, the use of voice message and short voice-memo style interludes give the album another level, pulling you deeper into the artist’s life and worldview. The story of having his father’s bike stolen at the dole office, or mistaking cat hair for the fabric of reality on an acid trip imbues you to Nealo’s infectious personality, an artist and person near impossible to dislike. The Tiny Birds Interlude, followed by Only Human, closes the album out on a beautiful note.

A reminder that there’s always a rainbow at the end of a storm and November Medicine is the light to lead your way home.
