On Your Own Love Again
[Drag City]
Disregarding the mystique around a record is sometimes the best thing to. On Your Own Love Again is a sparse record of finger-picking acoustic guitar and layered vocals with a hum of tape hiss evident but not particularly significant. In a sense, its classic Drag City fare: a talented songwriter left to her own devices and to carve her own niche. It’s a record that could be a reissue of obscure 1970s gem, but achieves this aura without feeling retro, so naked is the form and so timeless the content.
