Rehabilitated for a new generation of snapbacked rap fans through his Das Racist/eXquire associations, El-P might be cool in a new way, but he’s also just as urgently sincere as he ever was. Things are bad in post-industrial America, as most fans of studied cerebral raps will agree, and El-P paints that picture over up-tempo unease with the expected verbal dexterity. It’s sonically and conceptually uniform and whether it’s weed paranoia or true perception, it’s hard not to hear out one of the greats when he’s so confident and full of vigour.
