Nights in the Dark
[Don Giovanni Records]
Ever yearn for a time when Weezer were still good? Well, this album is for you! There are unmistakable echoes of ‘the rad four’ (I just made that up) circa Pinkerton all over this album, mixed with straight ahead hard rockin’. The inclusion of Ayla’s Song and Garlic Road take some of the steam out of the record, but it maintains its momentum otherwise. It’s less overtly joyous than their debut, and there’s a melancholic fug covering much of it, but it’s more emotionally engaging for that reason.
