After numerous guest features for famous friends and a staggering 3-year recording process, Jaden Smith drops debut SYRE, a wildly ambitious 70-minute alternative hip-hop experiment that frantically switches between R&B, Pop, Trap and Rap over 17 haphazard tracks.
The 19-year-old can’t be faulted for sheer desire, and there’s promise strewn among the wreckage of this unfortunately lengthy and chaotic mess as Smith energetically channels idols Frank, Kanye and Kudi with middling success.
Put the misfires down to youthful naivety and stay tuned.
