Flight of the Conchords
Live in London
[Sub Pop]
A greyer Bret and Jemaine reconvene for the audio release of their recent HBO special and while there’s no doubting the Conchords’ songwriting abilities, it’s the inclusion of on-stage repartee delivered in that understated deadpan that underscores their genre-spanning pastiches.
Old standards receive some spit and polish, but those expecting a nostalgic greatest hits set will be pleasantly surprised by new material which ably holds its own, familiar to anyone who caught last June’s Dublin shows.
From cult beginnings to sold-out arenas, the Kiwi duo retain their cultural cachet without losing a step.
