I saw Arctic Monkeys at the dying embers of their tour in late 2009. To say they seemed jaded would be an understatement: they were bloody knackered. Whatever the intervening months have involved, their malaise seems not to have shifted. On Suck It And See they inhabit the bludgeoning cock-rock sounds of their support that night, the lumpen and unimaginative Eagles Of Death Metal. Lead single Brick By Brick sounds like the kind of song Liam might have written if Noel had never joined Oasis. Gone is the spark and charm that set Turner’s crew apart from their peers. A shame.
