James Blake
200 Press EP
[1-800 DINOSAUR]
One wonders is James Blake perpetually to wander the hinterland between Mercury Prize success and FACT mag rave write-ups. A skilled and innovative producer, his EPs hint at a synthesis of worlds and genres that his albums don’t deliver, even if both are smattered with handful of lovely keyboard ballads. 200 Press is by no means the defining work you’d hope he produces, but with its mixture of industrial scuttling rhythms and spliced vocal and piano samples that are his trademark, it’s yet more enjoyable ephemera.
