Dutch Uncles
O Shudder
[Memphis Industries]
Manchester’s Dutch Uncle’s fourth full length draws on the sounds of 1980s electropop with a view towards skewing well worn tropes by pairing them with lyrics concerning social media, terrorism and general millennial dread. Unfortunately, the intriguing-on-paper premise is ultimately failed by the forgettable nature of the end product, too often settling on a kind of saccharine, throwaway sound in the vein of a Phoenix if not as overtly anthemic or a notionally more thoughtful but only marginally less shite version of Passion Pit.
