As artists continue to confront the challenges brought to bear by the Coronavirus, Piece By Piece, an innovative new series presented by Improvised Music Company and Triskel, unfurls a slow-burning sequential performance of new music from leading Irish improvisers.
Each artist’s input performance will influence or inspire the next performance in this musical chain, as quite literally, ‘piece by piece’, artists create new improvised music, based on the preceding work.
The eight-week long series kicks off this Friday 10th April at 8pm with a performance by acclaimed guitarist and electronic improviser Shane Latimer, and continues weekly until 29th May.
First up is acclaimed guitarist and electronic improviser Shane Latimer, whose music occupies the fertile space between nature and technology, using software and electronic processing to harvest the shimmering sounds of guitar.
Other outstanding artists commissioned in this series include woodwind instrumentalist, composer and producer Seán MacErlaine, world-class improvising pianist Izumi Kimura, virtuoso trombonist and composer Paul Dunlea, composer, pianist and arranger Cormac McCarthy, improvising violinist, violist and composer Cora Venus Lunny, harpist and sound artist Úna Monaghan, and a duo input from couple saxophonist/composer/producer
