Trash Talk

Trash Talk’s vision of hardcore is a simple idea executed to perfection. Lighting fast riffs, pounding and precise drumming and, of course, Lee Spielman’s frantic, breathless vocals in the middle of it all. Short songs with anthemic choruses meant screamed at the top of your lungs, stage shows that dissolve the boundaries between band and audience and a kinetic energy that makes resistance somewhat futile. So far, so hardcore. All the ingredients are there in the Sacramento band’s music, but the balance of them, the way they combine, seems new in some way. It’s hard to put your finger on, probably because you’re too busy trying to stay upright in the middle of a pit.

After years of flying under the radar, why have Trash Talk apparently climbed to the top of the hardcore pile, with typically non-punk press fawning all over them? It’s a good question with a few possible answers. We won’t speculate. Go see them, make up your own mind.
