The last time Mark E. Smith was in Dublin, he lashed a bottle at Mumford and Sons, and called them a pack of cunts. Luckily there are no chart-bothering folk saps in town tomorrow night to distract from the Fall’s return to Ireland – don’t be surprise if you end up earning the ire of Smith yourself though.
The post-punk juggernaut has always been a vehicle for Smith’s venom, and despite a rollercoaster ride in quality from album to album (their most recent, Ersatz G.B., earned a famous all-time-low of 2.2 on Pitchfork, yet its predecessors Your Future Our Clutter and Imperial Wax Solvent had a wealth of great moments) the miserable Manc’s wit and knack for left-of-centre pop culture references remains intact.
