A sense of humour is a wonderful thing in an artist. We also celebrate individuality, musicality, originality. Ron and Russell Mael have all these attributes in spades. Even now, forty years after their career started, they are still pushing their own boundaries and limitations, creating new channels for their utterly inimitable charm to flow through. Whether it’s writing an opera based on the life of intense Swedish director Ingmar Bergman or playing each of their 21 albums live on consecutive nights, the Mael brothers know how to keep themselves busy. For this show, they’ll be stripped down to just a keyboard and a vocal, both as distinctive as ever, for the first time.
