Not quite as abrasive as their next-door-at-the-Academy competition Death Grips, but no less comfortable on the outer limits of experimental hip-hop are Shabazz Palaces. Having provided the soundtrack for a Kenyan glue-sniffing flick and two incomplete, but intriguing EPs before the release of last year’s more conclusive Black Up album, Shabazz’s queasy, wobbly production recalls the nocturnal chill of trip-hop with an altogether more drugged-out edge.
