Téada Orchestra presents: Dance

Téada Orchestra are bring classical music to new spots and doing it all on their own. This performance will focus on pieces of music inspired by the rhythms of different dances from around the world, including Bartok’s transformations of Eastern European folk dances to Astor Piazzolla’s tangos, as well as new compositions from Téada’s own Tim Doyle. Conor O’Brien’s third record Darling Arithmetic, released last month, was his best record yet and even rocketed to the top of the Irish album charts. The little fella with the teeny guitar brings his subtle, spritely songs to two nights to the resplendent old-world surrounds of the Olympia Theatre that will see this local favourite melting hearts and raising spirits.

Fucked Up

Arthur Russell’s Instrumentals
Saturday 23 May | Button Factory | 7.30pm, €25
A stellar cast of Arthur Russell’s friends, contemporaries and admirers has been put together to perform Instrumentals, a set of pieces composed by Russell in the mid-1970s that span pop-music sensibilities and the repetitive tendencies of minimalist composers, and which have rarely been performed outside New York City. Peter Gordon, known for his soundtrack compositions as well as his dance-oriented released with Love of Life Orchestra put the show together, and you can check out our interview with him about it right here.
Output: Music & Media Technologies Graduate Exhibition

Always an entertaining look into what the future music weirdos of Dublin start, the graduate showcase for Trinity College’s Music and Media Technologies course takes place on Saturday, and is always an interesting affair full of pieces of music and art inspired by new uses of technology including internet operas and the usual mad ideas. Out to Lunch: DJ Spinkles and New Jackson

After a super-successful first outing for Out to Lunch in Bar Tengu and Ping Pong (upstairs over Tengu) Con Artist and Major Problems are back with a couple more big names, including Tokyo’s own DJ Sprinkles and Balinteer’s own New Jackson. Mother: We Are Family

They’re calling it a night of celebration no matter which way the referendum goes for those who’ve contributed to the Yes campaign over recent months, and given the night that’s in it, they’ve upped sticks to the larger District 8 for this special night.
