Friday 3 April | Mystery Location | 6.30pm, €60

At a mystery location – the best kind – enjoy a six course seafood only no-meat special for Good Friday with accompanying wine pairings. The whole shebang is €60 for the lot, which is a pretty tidy affair an will make you feel much classier and well fed than storing up on tins of Bavaria and Druids on Thursday evening. Paul Collins formerly of power-pop heroes The Nerve and The Beat, and most famed for the former’s Hanging On The Telephone, is taking a crew of local scuzz-poppers on tour with him across Europe, beginning in Ireland with dates in Galway and then Dublin on Easter Sunday. The band, made of members of the Number Ones and Me and My Dog will be ripping through classics from both of Collins’ bands like Working Too Hard and That’s What Life Is All About. BANTER – THE IRISH PUB, WHERE ARE WE AND WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Cross-promotion alert! The Locals (aka John Mahon), Discotekken and Banter are teaming up for a triple threat here on Irishness and what seems like Irishness’ core component: boozing. For entertainment The Irish Pub is a documentary about that most ubiquitous of establishments, while Ensemble Ériu are taking the whole trad band idea and modernising it. Jim Carroll’s Banter Series continues with a discussion about alcohol, licensing, the venues and the economy of alcohol. Details here.

Shakespeare’s original high-school drama opened last week on the stage of The Gate in a new production that’s directed by Wayne Jordan (Alice in Funderland, Celebration) and features a cast including Fra Fee and Lauren Coe in the titular roles. As you might expect, with such a well known work, the production uses the audience’s familiarity with the material to allow them license to push expectations when necessary.

After a postponed date last year, Stones Throw’s turntablist extraordinaire J Rocc is at the Sugar Club late on Easter Sunday night bank holiday special from Choice Cuts. This starts late and goes into the wee hours of Monday morning, with Watermelon DJs in the Sugar Club garden with Well Known.
