HOT COPS w/ ME & MY DOG

Wednesday 3 February | Sweeney’s | 7.30pm, €7/5

Irish indie label Paper Trail, responsible for delectable releases from Cloud and Beach Moon/Peach Moon last year, unveil their newest babies, with Hot Cops (from up North) playing Sweeney’s alongside notorious garage pop raggamuffins Me & My Dog. Hot Cops channel nineties and and noughties indie with big names like Pavement and Deerhunter being dropped, suggesting they might have a thing for layers of hazy feed back. Get a first glimpse tonight.

LISTENING CENTRE (NYC) w/ CAL FOLGER DAY

Friday 5 February | Little Gem Records | 7.30pm, €7/5

Record shop-cum-record label Little Gem, brainchild of I Heart The Monster Hero’s Andy Walsh, pops up again this time on Kildare Street in the intimate the confines of Molloy & Dowling Opticians. The special occasion is a performance from Berlin’s Listening Centre doing some electro-kosmische jams, with a side helping of avant-folk gallantry from Cal Folger Day. Find more info here.

ANTI-RACISM DAY

In response to Islamophobic political group Pegida setting up shop over here, the Anti-Racism Network Ireland have urged anti-racism groups around the country to rally this weekend in response to Pegida’s first planned public demonstration. Lend your support by turning up at the GPO at lunchtime on Saturday. The Thin Air and Medium and bringing their distorted minds together to put on a night of rough-around-the-edges, or maybe even rough-to-the-very-core bedroom pop from Handsome Eric, Stephen Star and Tobi the Dog in the scuzz-popper’s venue of choice these days, The Bello Bar.
