Totally Dublin Valentine’s Weekender | February 14 – 16

Posted February 13, 2014 in More

Hold onto your hats lovebirds, it’s gonna be a windy one. Here’re a few other ways to be blown away (wha’ wha’) this weekend:

die-hard-2 CROP

Baby You’re A Firework: JDIFF – Pyrotechnics & Pistols

Smithfield Square | Friday 14 February 2pm, Free

Start off this year’s anti-valentines weekend with a bang, literally. The 12th Jameson Dublin International Film Festival is hosting a free special effects spectacle tomorrow afternoon in Smithfield Square. For this special one-off event the folks at JDIFF have recruited the help of Film FX Ireland, Ashford and the Stunt Actors Guild and their F/X and stunt teams to recreate Hollywood-style effects scenarios here on the streets of Dublin with a Q&A from the audience afterwards – not a bad way to spend your Friday lunch break!

 DAMSON CROP

You’ve been Snookered: Luv Thang @ Damson Diner

Damson Diner | Friday 14 February, 11pm, €6

Tottle on down to Damson for a boogie in the evening where we’ll be puckering up to some deep, disco, soul and house provided by a handful of handsome hunnies (their words, not ours) taking over all three floors from 11 ’til late. Here‘s a taste of what to expect. Check out the event page here more for info.

 Forest Swords CROP

Romantic Rollover: Forrest Ships

Button Factory | Saturday 15 February, 7.30pm, €12

Forget the walk of shame you made earlier on, have a shower (or don’t) and start again ’cause Forrest Swords is in town. Wildcard producer Matthew Barnes took his time releasing his debut album Engravings and “nearly gave up music” in the process. However it proved to be worth the wait, we reviewed when it was released in August and deemed it “an upgrade on previous releases, Barnes remarkable ability to not just fuse the disparate (folk and club, live instrumentation and laptop, hip-hop and noise but add something new to his genres of choice nevertheless startles in it’s confidence” with the production reaching transcendental heights beyond even that of Yeezus and Clams Casino to a “pantheon of it’s own”. This will be Matthew Barnes first gig in Dublin, don’t miss it.
