We’ve been awed by the personalised series of gig posters which Rionagh McNamara, graphic designer with MCD, has been creating.
Of course, when acts come to town they often have pre-approved artwork from a latest release which just requires some basic date and location swops.
“I do get to stretch my creative muscles working on all of our festivals, but sometimes I want to celebrate a particular artist myself,” says McNamara.
“For my own creations, working with the booker, I make a piece of art to mark the occasion, and we frame them for the band and present them to them in their dressing room by way of a ‘Welcome to Ireland.’
I print limited edition runs of 50, give some to the band for their guests and then give the rest out to the super fans up the front at the very end of the show, the people who queued all day to get in and pitched their spot at the barrier for the love of the band!
It’s a bit of fun – after 15 years in the business I still get a kick out of the electricity of live shows.”
