Issue 331 of GCN (Gay Community News) ‘Queer Notions’ marks a much lauded revamp of the queer bible.
It’s spruced up, reinvigorated and strutting its stuff about town.
Its July edition revisits Joni Crone, who in 1980 at the age of 26 became the first Irish lesbian to go on The Late Late Show.
“When you say you’re proud of it, are you really, Joni?” asked the host Gay Byrne.
“I had a flat on Camden Street and one of the women who sold vegetables on the street said she ‘wouldn’t serve the like of that’.
The next woman along – I’ll never forget her face – said: ‘You’re alright, love, don’t mind her.’”
