A special edition of the Pop-Up Gaeltacht will take place on April 10, 2025, at 8pm in Bar Rua, Dublin 2, in support of Women’s Aid, a leading organisation working to combat gender-based violence in Ireland. Irish speakers of all levels are invited to come together in a relaxed and social setting to celebrate the language while raising awareness for an important cause. A Pop-Up Gaeltacht is an informal gathering where people are encouraged to converse in Irish, regardless of their fluency. This initiative has grown in popularity across Ireland and beyond, creating inclusive spaces for Gaeilgeoirí and learners alike.
In this edition, attendees will not only enjoy an evening of conversation and community but also contribute to raising awareness and support for Women’s Aid, which has been at the forefront of advocating for survivors of domestic abuse and gender-based violence. Speaking about the upcoming event, organiser Laura Heeney emphasised the importance of using cultural gatherings as a platform for social change.
The Ros na Rún actress stated; “One in three women are a victim of domestic abuse. Vocal and visible solidarity is so important as we fight together against gender based violence. Misogyny is omnipresent everywhere we go and in everything we do. It is so important that everyone stands in solidarity against gender based violence.”
Supporters of the event include Social Media Influencer, Irish language and LGBTQ+ activist Cian Ó Griafa, aka Gaylgeoirí and GALPAL Collective co-founder and filmmaker Aisha Bolaji.
While the event is free to attend donations are encouraged. All welcome, whether fluent in Irish or just beginning their Irish language journey.
Please support if you can.
