What’s the oldest hotel in the capital? The Shelbourne, The Gresham, Wynn’s or Buswells?
Nope, it’s The Castle Hotel on Great Denmark Street which according to the Come Here to Me blog dates back to 1809 when it was opened by a Mrs McClory.
Michael Collins stayed in room 204 and it stands next door to where Harry Clarke had his first shop and workshop.
They’ve kept the hotel running throughout Covid – it’s a stay of choice for fathers-in-waiting as their loved one rolls into the Rotunda.
And now the slowdown has offered them the opportunity to revamp and extend their bar.
They are also patrons of this magazine without whom we would cease to exist and for that, we are also simply grateful.
