Bono, Mother Teresa, Jack Charlton; there is a very short list of people who hold the keys to Dublin city – of course, outside of their rights to pasture sheep on Stephen’s Green and call up city militias, these few recipients don’t get up to much with this rare honour.
There are other Dubliners, though, that make it their business to unlock new places, space and experiences for their fellow civilians. Whether resurrecting underused buildings or opening up fine dining to the masses, the invention and acumen of these bright sparks uncover hidden aspects of the city and keep Dublin evolving.
Totally Dublin has teamed up with Heineken to highlight the work of these firebrands, to showcase their work and let them guide us through the city through their eyes – to celebrate the first installment in the series, which is in our current issue across the city now, we’re throwing a very, very special event. We want you to come along.
Ferg Brown – Roasted Brown Cafe
My random love is Arisu, the Korean BBQ on Capel Street. I have some Korean friends who bring me there, they know what to order so we fill a table and feast on loveliness for the evening. It’s all about the taste and the experience of almost being somewhere else.
Barry Fitzgerald
I regularly go for walks at the Nature Reserve in Poolbeg. We head out with bags to collect blackberries. Nadúr Collective (three chefs who use wild and found ingredients and combine them with traditional production methods) facilitate foraging walks, which I’ll be going on soon. September’s a good time to go looking for produce growing around the city.
Cian Corcoran and Ahmad Fakhry – Designgoat
We believe that we are only as good as our last job…and all of the ones preceding it. Every space we undertake is important to us as a personal achievement and as a calling card for potential clients. At the moment we are finishing some furniture that will be going into Sister Sadie (Brother Hubbard‘s little sister) on Harrington Street. Brother Hubbard is a cafe we fitted out about two years ago. They make a lot of great, Middle Eastern inspired, food in-house and have become hugely successful, which has led to this other venture, Sister Sadie. The menu will be different but the quality will be nothing less than what we have come to expect from Garret and James. It’s a fit out that we’re really excited about as the unit and location are great and our design for the space has come together really well.
