Road Records
Affectionately – and probably confusingly – known as just “Road”, this shop has been fixing music junkies on Fade Street for the past seven years. Specialising in rock, indie, techno and electronica, it’s ground floor for new vinyl and CDs, basement for a wonderful selection of second hand treats. Owner Dave Kennedy told me that he has noticed an increase in vinyl sales in the past few months.

Murder City Records
Suitably located above the vintage style emporium that is Flip, visiting Murder City Records is like taking a trip back in time to the US-of-A of the fifties. Here you will find a selection of underground records from the fifties onwards, taking in punk, rock and garage along the way. Stocks mainly vinyl, but with some CDs also available. A flick through their racks will provide you with quite a few surprises. Only recently opened in September, it already has a loyal following and rightly so.

Final Vinyl
Final Vinyl has just moved from Camden Street, where it was for the past four years, to Francis Street. Anybody vaguely interested in the obscure will no doubt already be familiar with it, and probably still in mourning after the demise of the Aladdin’s Cave of Camden Street. Fear not, the Francis Street shop still houses the same wonderful mix of easy listening, soul, jazz, rock etc. Mac the proprietor is always on hand to give advice and to point you in the right direction. Also check out his stall Mac’s Records in the Georges Street Arcade.
