With Phase 4 being delayed until the end of August and little certainty around that date also, the pub industry remains in a worrying limbo.
“It’s confusing times,” says Dave Parle, one of the co-owners, of The Big Romance on Parnell Street which has been shut since March 14. “The 11pm curfew is a killer. On normal hours we’d be operating at about 50% but closing at 11pm makes it even more difficult.”
They’ve been thinking about more listening parties, live sports and “trying to work around ideas to make it interesting” for their loyal punters.
“We’re trying to figure out the rules and how we fit in as a responsible business,” he says. “Of course, you have to look at the bigger picture and not get too caught up in your own too.”
In the interim, they are providing a tasty delivery service of craft beers, wine and neat merch.
