Little did Bhagya and Robert Barrett know that their blind date, in Tom Collins pub in Limerick, would lead them to launch a gin and a distillery five years later.
Maharani Gin is the first release from their boutique Rebel City Distillery. Using Pantone’s 2020 colour of the year, Classic Blue in its distinctive labelling, the Malayalam lettering includes the word viplava (rebel) spirit.
Blending nine botanicals, the gin itself has aromas of pomelo fruit, spices cassia and nutmeg-mace which are all sourced from a women’s organic farming co-operative in Bhagya’s home state.
“We couldn’t think of a better partnership: strong women from my homeland,” says Bhagya.
