Can it really be almost a decade since Vanessa Murphy and Anna Cadrera first opened the doors of Las Tapas De Lola? In the years since, the popularity of the couple’s buzzy Wexford Street venture has proven an enduring testimony to their shared passion for great Spanish food, delicious wines and the pursuit of fun.

So far so fabulous, which explains why we were more than a little excited to learn of their plans to launch La Gordita,  a new sister restaurant on nearby Montague Street.

Their new baby is set to occupy the hallowed premises previously inhabited by the legendary Gerry’s, which closed earlier this year when the man himself announced his retirement after almost four decades at the helm there. Paying tribute to him on social media, the duo said that Gerry was a fantastic help to them on handover, adding, “He spent 39 years serving fantabulous Irish fare from No 6 with a loving following to boot. Let’s hope we can continue the tradition with our Spanish bodega.”

For those wondering about the name, it translates as ‘the little fat one’, a term of endearment in Anna’s family, and one they often use to describe their adorable pug Blossom.

With building renovations currently underway, we’re looking forward to savouring some very tasty bodega style fare when La Gordita opens in the not too distant future.

Keep an eye on their social feeds for more.
