As winter draws in it can often be more difficult than usual to get away from the desk for a quick brew, but there’s a growing consensus that a trip to your local café is increasingly good for your health. One mental health advocate tells us that in a world increasingly dominated by digital communication, cafés often provide a much-needed space for face-to-face interaction.
Fiona O’Malley, CEO of national mental health charity, Turn2Me says, “Café culture is more than just a passing fad; it’s a reflection of our deep-seated need for connection, relaxation, and community, even more so after Covid.”
Whether it’s a quick catch-up or a deep conversation, O’Malley says that such social interactions are essential for maintaining strong relationships, and often play a vital role in promoting mental health.
“By offering a space where we can slow down, catch up with friends, and feel part of a community, café culture can help enhance our well-being in subtle but significant ways. So, the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, consider heading to your local café for a coffee and a chat – it might be just what you need to boost your mood and mental health.”
See you down the caff!
