We talk brunch, afternoon tea and exciting new menu additions with Diego Cabrera, owner of Peperina Garden Bistro.
“Our simple, consistent and delicious menus offer a fresh approach to traditional dishes. Of course I like to add a Latin twist to them, especially Argentinian.” – Diego Cabrera, Peperina Garden Bistro
How long has Peperina been in existence? What is the concept behind the restaurant and how has it evolved?
Peperina was established in 2012. It was during the recession which was challenging. Initially, I was looking to open in another area but when I found this location it felt right. The location had a lot to do with the concept. Dunville Avenue is a busy and lively area during the day and there was a need for a casual, all day, eatery for locals to enjoy.
We now offer Breakfast, Lunch and a renowned Weekend Brunch as well as our Evening Menu served Thursday to Saturday. Our simple, consistent and delicious menus offer a fresh approach to traditional dishes. Of course I like to add a Latin twist to them, especially Argentinian.
You are introducing Argentinian Choripán with Chimichurri to the menu soon. Can you tell us about this dish?
The Argentine Choripán is a popular lunch dish for all in Argentina. Sold at football games, street stalls and restaurants. Traditional chorizo, hot off the grill and served on a roll with chimichurri. A dish from my childhood in Cordoba.
Tell us a bit about some of the team working at Peperina?
We are very lucky to have an amazing team at Peperina. We pride ourselves on our friendly and consistent service. Many of the team have been with us for years. We work really well together as a team and most importantly enjoy working together. This in turn makes our customers feel at home.
What’s on offer for brunch at the weekend?
Brunch at Peperina is busy, lively and fun. Dishes like our ultimate Peperina Breakfast or our unique Salmon Alvear, Victorian Breakfast and Pizza Ranchera to our popular Mexican Nachos, Chicken Wings, Burgers and Quesadillas.
Our beautiful renovated south facing terrace is now open and perfect for Brunch on a Sunny day.
You also operate as a cafe with a selection of cakes and desserts? Are these made in house or sourced locally?
We make all our cakes and desserts in-house, including freshly baked scones, breads, muffins, cookies, rocky roads, tarts and granola bars. Also serving freshly squeezed Orange juice, fresh fruits smoothies and milkshakes.
Our Afternoon Tea is served daily and is a treat to experience. We will also launch new items on our summer menus with some great new dishes in addition to Peperina favorites.
