Located within the historic walls of Howth Castle, Howth Castle Cookery School recently unveiled its newly transformed kitchen, featuring an exciting collaboration with luxury German appliance brand Gaggenau.
A centre of culinary excellence for over 260 years, the kitchen at Howth Castle was originally built in the mid-18th century, and today provides a platform for aspiring chefs of all ages to learn the art of cooking in a unique historic setting.
For resident chefs Sarah Hughes and fine-dining expert John Carty the big reveal, which includes precision-engineered ovens and induction hobs, successfully marries centuries-old tradition with state-of-the-art technology, while reflecting the School’s ongoing commitment to innovation.
As part of a busy programme of events, the School offers a wide variety of hands-on cooking classes suitable for all skill levels. Friday, April 4th sees the School team up with Darren Thompson of Cooper’s Bottle Shop in Sutton, for a tasting evening featuring a chance to taste a small family brut champagne, a rose, a fresh clean white wine, and two exciting red wines.
The day after sees them hosting a class led by Mark Grehan of The Garden Floral Design Studio in Powerscourt Townhouse, who’ll be facilitating a hands-on Spring Wreath Making workshop in the grounds there. The morning of Saturday, April 5th begins with coffee and a pastry before participants head into the gardens and grounds at Howth Castle Estate to collect seasonal foliage, ferns, flowers. This is followed by a busy morning being guided through the art of floral design and table styling, after which participants get to bring home their creation.
In addition to individual classes, including one for ‘Teens and Tweens’ aimed at fostering a love for cooking amongst younger folk, Howth Castle Cookery School also offers tailored corporate experiences, including a hands-on ‘Catch and Cook’ experience, which involves fishing for your lunch in Dublin Bay.
