3 Days to Kill

Director: McG

Talent: Kevin Costner, Amber Heard, Hailee Steinfeld, Connie Nielsen

Release Date: 20th June 2014

CIA man Ethan Renner (Kevin Costner) is diagnosed with a terminal illness just as he retires from his duties. With death on the horizon and a host of family issues, Ethan doesn’t have much to lose when he’s offered an experimental life-extending drug in exchange for carrying out one last assignment in Paris, the home of his estranged wife and daughter. As is the case with recent Besson thrillers, Ethan’s fatherly duties inevitably run up against his secret agent duties in entirely expected and unfunny ways.

3 Days to Kill weighs its middling-to-poor gunfights and car chases against some conventional family melodrama in a way which irritates rather than builds compassion or interest. The majority of the film struggles to balance its parallel plots, clumsily stumbling from shootout to shout-out and back again. Don’t let the title fool you, Costner’s latest only takes about 30 Minutes to Kill (Your Enthusiasm For This Film).
