Battleship

Director: Peter Berg

Talent: Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Rihanna.

Release Date: April 11th 2012

During a routine Naval drill, seaman Hopper (Kitsch) and his team (Neeson & Rihanna) encounter hostile alien lifeforms submerged in the sea. With highly advanced tech and the element of surprise on their side, the aliens manage to cripple all human forces……all except one. The Battleship in question, alone and cut off from the world by an energetic spherical force-field, must now engage in all out war in an attempt to overcome the vastly superior alien race.

Having proven himself more than capable with films like Hancock and The Kingdom, Peter Berg takes the helm of this new board game turned blockbuster seafaring epic. Backed by the special effects company Hasbro, who gave us the stunning Transformers, visually you know its going to be impressive

Leading the acting line is Taylor Kitsch (John Carter), a still somewhat unproven entity, but with Berg there represents a chance to rekindle their hugely successful partnership on the highly acclaimed TV series, Friday Night Lights. Liam Neeson, the bedrock, will play the commanding Naval officer, ensuring at least one name we can rely on. The biggest surprise comes in the form of none other than Rihanna, making her acting debut as weapon specialist Raikes.

A promising spectacle with a questionable plot, Battleship provides the punchline of what you’d get if you crossed a Terminator with a Titanic.
