Quantum of Solace

Posted March 20, 2009 in DVD/Digital Reviews

Picking up immediately after the explosive conclusion to Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace opens with Bond in the midst of a spectacular car chase and shoot out, as he transports Mr. White to an interrogation. Plot twists lead to Bond going rogue and seeking vengeance, following the trail of evil to Haiti, the bad guy Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric) and his beautiful mistress Camille (Olga
Kurylenko).
Daniel Craig made the Bond role his own in Casino Royale, introducing, a softer side not seen in previous Bonds. In Quantum of Solace, however, the emotional edge is rarely seen and Bond’s revenge is cold and merciless. There’s also reliably excellent work from Judi Dench as M and strong support from Jeffrey Wright (reprising his role as CIA agent Felix Leiter). The film’s set pieces and action sequences have been compared (favorably) with the Bourne movies and highlights include a spectacular foot chase on the rooftops of Siena and a shoot-out at an opera house to the accompaniment of Tosca.
