Lions for Lambs

Robert Redford gets the big guns out as Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise join him in this blustering political drama. Redford plays an inspirational professor whose influence on a couple of his most promising students leads them to sign up to fight in Afghanistan. Meanwhile the great white hope of the Republican Party, Jasper Irving (Cruise), has come up with an alternative war strategy and wants veteran journalist Janine Roth (Streep) to push it in the media. The plan could have serious repercussions on the ground for the two idealistic young soldiers. For a film that apires to stimulate debate, Lions for Lambs has plenty to say, but little or nothing that is original or inspiring.
