The Joneses

Posted April 21, 2010 in Cinema Reviews

A perfect family move to a perfect neighbourhood bringing with them all the cool gadgets and fancy furniture your heart could possibly desire. They are friendly, warm and beautiful and soon infiltrate the town’s social circle. But they are hiding a secret; they are a fake family planted in an affluent area with the intention of convincing their neighbours to buy the stuff they have.
This is a sharply observed dramedy that seriously loses its way towards the end but what comes before is energetic and clever enough to forgive the bland and dour closing act. The film also boasts a wonderful turn from Duchovny in Californication mode and the always excellent Gary Cole steals the show as down on his luck neighbour Larry. Worth a look, but unfortunately doesn’t live up to its potential.
