The Divergent Series: Allegiant
Director: Robert Schwentke
Talent: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Jeff Daniels, Naomi Watts
Release Date: 18th March 2016
Allegiant sees Tris, Four, Caleb and the rest of the Divergent gang venturing beyond Chicago’s fortifications to see what’s what on the other side of the death-wall. As is the case with any YA story the outside world is a wasteland. Blink and you might think you’re at a rerun of The Scorch Trials, in more ways than one, actually.
Allegiant is just as predictable as the aforementioned Maze Runner sequel, and just as dull too. You’ll see every twist a mile off and save for a cool knife fight in a plane there’s not much to get excited about. It’s a pity really: the first Divergent film had a sense of gravitas to it that was refreshing, and shit got real for Tris. Not so much in this predictable, by-the-numbers picture. With Allegiant, the first of a two-part finale, the Divergent series limps toward the finish-line in an embarrassing display.of franchise fatigue.
