As light passes through defective glass, beams split into colour spectra, causing “diffraction grating.” This visual phenomenon is captured in a series of beautiful chromatic abstractions by the Irish, NYC-based, visual artist and director Shane Griffin. It’s easy to see why he has also licensed his artwork to Apple for their iPhone backgrounds. Besides this, Griffin has directed title sequences for Unbanned: The Legend Of AJ1 (Air Jordan’s if your street cred is flagging), worked for Nike on creating ‘environment and textual elements’ in support of Kanye West’s Yeezy II (The Red Octobers) as well as creating typography for Travis Scott’s ‘Rap Calendar’. He was also made global creative director of Los York Studios in 2018. Chromatic, his first solo exhibition here, is a collection of highly covetable large scale prints.
