1993 seems like a far and distant land. But this, among other things, was when Riverdance was born. I was there at the rehearsals the night before it aired to the world from Millstreet, a small town in North West Cork. Needless to say there were spine shivers at the energy and finesse at what we were witnessing. Mind-blowing is a fair summation. And this sense of awe is what has sustained its juggernaut existence across the globe ever since. 11,500 performances and been seen live by over 25 million people in over 467 venues worldwide in 47 countries across 6 continents has resulted in a fortune for its devisers John McColgan and Moya Doherty and connected a global audience with a dash of Irish culture. Bringing it all back home for a summer run is a bona fide crowd-pleaser too.
Runs until September 3rd
