21 years strong, and now the largest event of its type in the world, the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival celebrates the immense contribution of gay people to theatre in all its myriad forms, focusing on recent Irish and international works with a broadly gay relevance. With intriguing prospects like ‘Christian Support Group’ by Rosalind Patton and a host of two for the price of one double bill performances – we especially like the bill sharing ‘In Vitro’, Aoife O’Connor’s heartfelt, funny play that explores a same-sex couple’s journey to parenthood in today’s Ireland and Amy Garner’s ‘Babies in Bathwater’, a powerful work that won the Sean Meehan Identity Award for its portrayal of religious abuse – there’s intrigue and value at every turn. Horror fans too will be well catered for, with Daniel Orejon’s exploration of the history of homophobia in Spain, through a unique blend of choreography, theatre and storytelling. Truly, the two week long affair will have something to appeal to everyone, with another feather to set in a cap of year after year of wonderful programming.
International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival takes place from May 6th – 19th
