Gaia is a touring artwork by artist Luke Jerram. Measuring seven metres in diameter and created from 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface the artwork provides the opportunity to see our planet, floating in three dimensions. While Trinity College undertakes its massive conservation project which has emptied the shelves of the Long Room, it’s fair to say the cash cow that is this space needed a new spectacle and it comes in this hyper photo/selfie friendly spectacle of Gaia – the name for the personification of the Earth in Greek Mythology. There’s a sense of awe and wonder looking at earth revolving in such a profoundly landmark location. The Book of Kells is still on display and included in admission.
