The world premiere of Four takes place in the Music Room of Christ Church Cathedral. This large immersive work by David Bremner is based on text by Irish poet Billy Mills and themed around the four seasons, told through the life cycle of a leaf. The ensemble is Baroque flute, viola d’amore, soprano, speaker double bass, harpsichord, piano, community choir and live electronics, with video by Mihai Cucu. Bremner says: “Mills’ poetry is deeply minimal, and the constant near-repetitions of the contour material lead to a paradoxical, dream-like atmosphere, where the musical material is slowly transformed, akin to a natural process. Time is experienced as a spiral, a journey with constant reminiscences.”
