The perennial stalwart that is Dublin Dance Festival taps its way into our consciousness again with the tagline, ‘Let Go. Take Heart. Begin Again.’ Opening on the Abbey stage with celebrated American choreographer, Trajal Harrell, interpreting the monumental The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett (16,17), the festival also sees the return of Liz Roche (Yes and Yes, Project Arts Centre: 20,21) and Oona Doherty (Navy Blue, Abbey Theatre: 23, 24), the former a response to James Joyce’s Ulysses exploring sensuality, absurdity and release while the later will feature music from Sergeï Rachmaninoff and Jamie xx as it invites us to consider where we have been and where we are heading, as it appeals for urgent societal change.
There’s Pan Pan with The Sudden, a world premiere in Project Arts (24,25), Emma Martin’s end of the world celebration King | Shrine in the Complex (25,26), Marco D’Agostin, touching tribute to his late mentor on Best Regards (Project Arts Centre (26,27) and Emanuel Gat Dance Company’s LOVETRAIN2020, A choreographic ode to the ‘80s set to the music of Tears for Fears. No excuses!
