Tis the season to pour some mulled wine and indulge one of the finest traditions. One of the reasons Christmas carols bring such a sense of consolation and connection is surely their familiarity. Most of us have sung them since our primary school days. We pride ourselves on knowing the words. As the word carol – a joyful song – suggests, carols bring us together and connect us in groups of shared experience and feelings. The grand 19th Century congregational numbers – O Come All Ye Faithful for instance – is a rousing hymn of communal praise. Here are some which you can listen to or sing to your heart’s content.
