Roadmap: The Longlist

Posted June 28, 2023 in Arts and Culture

We’re always keeping an eye on the World Illustration Awards and note a number of Irish entries on the longlist.

Sarah Walsh leads the charge with three nominations for her animated gifs: Púca, designed as a development piece for a personal project about haunted locations and Hidden World, “taking a closer look at nature and the magic hidden within it.”

Lauren O’Hara gets a nod for her cover and spot illustrations for The Magic of the Ballet, Claire Supervie for Above and Below, an un-commissioned watercolour, One Tree Studio for The Watcher, a hand sculpted and hand painted figure of a wolf with her cubs and the stalwart Ale Mercado with his The Masque of the Red Death as he seeks to pivot into book illustration.

What is most pleasing about most of these selections is they are creatives pitching their talents without necessarily needing the hook of a client or commission. The shortlist is announced early July and winners in September.
