The Future Will Come

The RHA is home to some of Ireland’s oldest and most established artists, and its Annual Exhibition is the best chance you’ll get to peruse these stalwarts of Irish art. However, if like us you’re more excited by the cutting-edge and contemporary, you might prefer to bop along to their ‘Futures’ show – held annually on the heels of their flagship exhibition. This years’ bout, ‘Futures 12’, showcases six inspiring younger artists with the potential to move and shake, including painter Peter Burns, sculptor Caoimhe Kilfeather, and the politicised Jim Ricks. The one we’re most excited about, however, is recent NCAD graduate (with first class honours – g’wan girl) Lucy Andrews: Andrews’ sculptural objects use a hotch-potch of found objects and domestic products, from washing up liquid to nail varnish, configured to interact with one another in such a way that our perceptions are challenged.

Catch it at: The Royal Hibernian Academy, September 7th until October 28th.
