Happenings Presents: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Thursday 31 July | Merrion Square | 8pm, €5

A decent way to start off the the long weekend, with this 1980s John Hughes-directed coming-of-age cult classic about perhaps Gen X’s greatest slacker icon, Ferris Bueller, evading Principal Rooney for a day of fun in Chi-town. Life moves pretty fast, etc. This is an alcohol-free event with food provided by the Irish Village Markets.

Pintapalooza

Friday 1 August | The Pint | €10, 8pm

As a fundraiser for the RTÉ/Filmbase short film Love is a Sting, Pintapalooza is having a battle of the bands on Friday evening in the, er… Pint, of course. The judges are Niamh Farrell (Ham Sandwich), Dee Reddy (TXFM), Sinead Gleeson (A&R) and Darren Clarke (professional golfer or possible the engineer at Gam Audio). If we know our Saved By The Bell, the winner of this will win just enough funds to fix Zack’s dad’s car before he comes back home. DJs on the night include Aaron Dempsey (Radiomade), Victor Vector (Get Right) and Greg Spring and Russell Simmons (This Greedy Pig). Full details right here.

Following on from the success of past TV shows, Delamere’s new Holding Out for a Hero looks set to be a good ‘un, packed with references to Ireland’s ancient heroic history that many wont recognise but all are sure to find amusing nonetheless. This is a one-night-only performance so booking tickets in advance is advised. Details found here.
