The National Gallery of Ireland has just announced the return of Thursday Lates with a specially curated three-part series of unique evening events taking place on 13 October, 10 November and 1 December 2022. Visitors can enjoy a variety of free tours and cultural experiences at the Gallery this autumn and winter. Tickets to the unmissable Turner: The Sun is God exhibition will also be on sale for €5 from 5pm onwards.
The series commences on Thursday 13 October 2022 at 5.30pm. As the Gallery prepares for Halloween, members of the public can take part in a range of activities, including ghostly tours of the national collection, led by Underthings (Debbie Cheevers and Denny MacDermott), an improv duo from Dublin. Visitors on the night can also enjoy a spooky music set in the Gallery’s Winter Garden, with DJ Conor Behan behind the decks providing the entertainment. Food and drinks will be served in the Gallery café along with some festive trick or treats.
A design and craft themed Thursday Late event will take place on 10 November 2022 at 4.30pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to attend a tour highlighting some of the exquisite fashion and design featured in the Gallery’s collection. There will also be a craft and design showcase and demonstrations on the night by a range of artists and designers associated with the Gallery itself and the Gallery Shop.
To kick off the festive season, an evening of music will take place on 1 December 2022. Specially created tours, which explore music in the national collection, will run on the evening from 4.30pm onwards and award-winning pianist Máire Carroll will perform in the Gallery’s iconic Shaw Room. The exclusive performance of ‘Hidden Pianos’ will also feature the public premiere of a new composition for the National Gallery of Ireland by the Irish musician.
Thursday Lates are funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media in support of the Night-Time Economy
The National Gallery of Ireland is open to the public until 8.30pm on Thursday evenings and admission is free. Tickets for all themed tours and performances are limited, book early to avoid disappointment.
