Over two months, the extraordinary Irish work of Japanese photographer Akihiko Okamura will be exhibited at the incredible Photo Museum Ireland, in a groundbreaking show that offers a rare glimpse into Okamura’s compelling body of work.
This remarkable exhibition showcases Okamura’s fusion with his subject matter, his profound, personal relationship with Ireland and his aptitude for capturing poetic and ethereal moments of peace in a time of war.
Made in the North as well as in the South of Ireland from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, his photographs broke from the photo-journalistic tradition, creating a series of still lives and abstractions.
The exhibition runs until Saturday 6 July 2024.
